Flow over Weirs and Notches Apparatus (SMT-FM-07-A)
The Flow Weirs and Notches Apparatus is designed to study the relationship between upstream water level and discharge over different shaped notches.
The unit is supplied with two interchangeable sharp-crested weirs: a Thomson triangular weir and a rectangular weir. They are installed into the base module (Hydraulic Bench SMT-FM-100) and can be quickly replaced. A level gauge is included to measure water head, which is then used to calculate discharge and compare with measured values.
This apparatus allows students to verify theoretical equations for flow over weirs, while also gaining practical understanding of flow measurement in open channels.
