Thick Wall Cylinder Apparatus (SMT-SM-104)
A sturdy bench top mounted unit for studying the stresses and strains in a thick-walled cylinder under internal pressures-between 70-120Bar (7 12MNm-2). A thick-walled cylinder is mounted between two thick vertical support blocks. The cylinder is in two halves and then joined in the middle. In one half of the cylinder is a pocket for mounting the strain gauges radially and circumferentially. A strain gauge is also mounted inside the bore of the cylinder to monitor the longitudinal strain. Internal O ring seals create oil sealing, whilst special pressure glands are used to allow the train gauge wiring to route through the cylinder to the outside environment without destroying the seal system. The internal pressure is adjusted by means of a hydraulic hand pump on the apparatus. As the hand pump handle is raised and lowered the pressure within the cylinder is increased. A pressure relief valve is factory set and tested to avoid over pressuring the system and components. An analogue pressure gauge displays the internal pressure whilst a pressure transducer gives feedback to the Digital Interface and Data Acquisition Software. Software and Digital Interface allows capture, review, analysis and manipulation of the key experimental parameters using a host.
