4 Stroke Diesel Engine Test Bed (SMT-ICE-4)
This test bed is designed to study the performance and operational characteristics of a single-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine under various load conditions. It allows students to measure key parameters such as power output, fuel efficiency, and thermal performance, and to analyze the engine combustion process through real-time data and performance curves.
The unit features a 5hp water-cooled diesel engine directly integrated with an eddy current dynamometer that applies and measures torque. The system is equipped with sensors for monitoring critical parameters including temperatures, exhaust gas composition, and in-cylinder pressure and volume. This data is captured in real time through dedicated software, and an engine indicator set enables the construction of real-time P-V diagrams for detailed cycle analysis.
Its primary application is in mechanical and automotive engineering education for teaching the principles of compression ignition engines and thermodynamics. The key benefit is the hands-on ability to correlate theoretical diesel cycles with practical performance data, enabling students to visualize combustion characteristics, calculate efficiencies, and understand the impact of operational variables on engine performance and emissions.
